SIM Information in Pakistan
Everything you need to know about SIM registration, CNIC-linked SIM counts, official PTA checks, network codes, biometric verification, and how to fix SIM problems in Pakistan.
What is SIM Information?
SIM information refers to the registration and verification data associated with a mobile SIM card in Pakistan. Every SIM in Pakistan must be registered against a valid CNIC (Computerized National Identity Card) through PTA's biometric verification system. SIM information includes the registered name, CNIC, network operator, activation status, and how many SIMs are linked to a CNIC.
Understanding SIM information helps you verify your own registrations, detect unauthorised SIMs, and comply with PTA regulations.
Key takeaways:
- Every Pakistan SIM is registered against a 13-digit CNIC through biometric verification.
- The official self-check is SMS 668 or cnic.sims.pk: both return a count per company, never names.
- The current PTA limit is 8 SIMs per CNIC: 5 voice and 3 data, across all networks combined.
- Nobody outside the operator, PTA and NADRA may hold or show another person's registration record.
PTA SIM Information System
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) maintains the official SIM Information System, accessible at cnic.sims.pk. This system allows you to check how many SIMs are registered on your CNIC.
How to Use the PTA SIM Information System
- Open cnic.sims.pk in your browser.
- On the CNIC tab, type your 13-digit CNIC without dashes.
- Complete the reCAPTCHA security check.
- Press Submit and read your result.
The result shows a count of SIMs per company. It does not show phone numbers, names or addresses.
SIM Registration in Pakistan: How It Works
Biometric Verification System (BVS)
Since 2015, all new SIM registrations in Pakistan require biometric verification. When you buy a SIM, the seller scans your fingerprints on a biometric device, which matches them against NADRA's records for your CNIC.
Multi Finger Biometric Verification System (MBVS)
Since December 2022, SIMs are issued through MBVS, which randomly selects two fingers instead of the same finger every time. This prevents fake fingerprint use.
NADRA's Role
NADRA compares your fingerprints with its records. NADRA does not sell SIMs: the mobile company handles registration. NADRA's part is identity verification only.
Official SIM Check Methods
| Method | How | What you get | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| SMS 668 | SMS your 13-digit CNIC to 668 | SIM count per company | May apply |
| cnic.sims.pk | Enter CNIC + reCAPTCHA online | SIM count per company | Free |
| SMS 667 | SMS "MNP" from your SIM to 667 | Name and CNIC of that SIM | Rs 2 + tax (varies) |
| SMS 76367 | SMS "N 03XXXXXXXXX" to 76367 | Network name only | Rs 2 + tax |
SIM Count Limit per CNIC
PTA allows up to 8 SIMs per CNIC: 5 voice and 3 data, combined across all networks (Jazz, Zong, Telenor, Ufone, SCO).
The limit counts every SIM written against your CNIC, including data SIMs sitting in routers, CCTV boxes and vehicle trackers, not only the card in your phone. That is why the count on your CNIC can look higher than the number of SIMs you carry.
If your count is over the limit, or shows a stranger
- 1Run the count twice, once by SMS 668 and once on cnic.sims.pk, and compare the company-by-company lines.
- 2For any company you do not use, visit that operator's franchise with your CNIC and ask for the SIMs to be disowned. The site documents the current charge and waiting rules on the blocking guide.
- 3If an operator cannot resolve it, file a complaint with PTA through its public complaint portal at pta.gov.pk.
What SIM Information Never Includes
No official channel gives the public a name, address or CNIC image for someone else's number. The checks above return a count for your own CNIC, your own registered name through 667 from your own SIM, or a network name through 76367. Anything promising more is either inventing the result or harvesting your input; the mechanics are set out on the SIM card owner page. Disclosure of registration data happens only through legal process, handled by the NCCIA under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016 (PECA text).
FAQ
What is SIM information in Pakistan?
The registration record tied to a SIM: the holder's 13-digit CNIC, the mobile number, the issuing company, activation status and whether the card is voice or data. PTA, NADRA and the operator hold it. You can query your own record through SMS 668 or cnic.sims.pk, which return a count per company.
How do I check SIM information for free?
Use the online portal. Open cnic.sims.pk, enter your own 13-digit CNIC without dashes, pass the reCAPTCHA and submit. The portal lists no fee and returns your SIM count company by company. The SMS route to 668 carries the same result, though PTA says operator charges may apply.
How many SIMs can I register on one CNIC?
The current PTA ceiling is 8 SIMs per CNIC for personal use: 5 voice and 3 data, counted across all networks combined rather than per operator. Data SIMs in routers and trackers count toward it. Run a 668 check to see where you stand before buying another SIM.
Can I see someone else's SIM information?
No public service returns another person's name, CNIC or address for a number. Law enforcement can request registration data from operators under PECA 2016. Any site or APK claiming otherwise is fabricating results or collecting your query as its real product.
What is the difference between 668 and 667?
668 answers a question about your CNIC: how many SIMs sit against it, by company. 667 answers a question about one SIM: send MNP from that SIM and the reply shows the name and CNIC it was registered to, which is how you verify a card you are being sold. See all codes on the SMS codes guide.
Where to Go Next
SIM information in Pakistan is one register with three doors: the operator wrote the record at a biometric point, NADRA verified the identity behind it, and PTA lets you count it. Start with the free count on cnic.sims.pk or SMS 668. If a line surprises you, the unauthorised SIM guide sets out the disowning route, and the FAQ answers the questions this page deliberately does not.
Who Does What: PTA, NADRA, Mobile Companies, NCCIA
| Body | Role |
|---|---|
| PTA | Sets SIM rules, runs public count, handles complaints |
| NADRA | Keeps national identity records, verifies fingerprints |
| Mobile company | Registers, issues and removes SIMs |
| NCCIA | Investigates identity misuse under PECA |
